Teofimo Lopez “IBF Title Eliminator, then Lightweight “TAKEOVER.” Can He Pull It Off?

BY Scottie “The Context” White

Teofimo Lopez 13-0 (11KOs) is never shy of the bright lights, microphone, camera, action as he prepares to showout in the District for a title eliminator. Across the square will be Masayoshi Nakatani 18-0 (12KOs) a tough challenger who will answer the bell to attempt a shocker in slowing down the highly touted boxing star in Lopez.

Both fighters know this fight is a special engagement of combat, a fight which will change the life of Nakatani and for Lopez keeping his lineal cross-heirs zoned in on a single fighter to the lightweight division – Vasyl Lomachecko.

But first, this Top Rank star has to attend his boxing curriculum in acing two boxing exams, first one versus Nakatani and then a very tough battle with current IBF champion Richard Commey 29-2 (26KOs). If Lomachenko is victorious with Luke Campbell, it will indeed present us with an exciting bout for the boxing queue, a spectacular lightweight undisputed manifest for the ages. Commey is fresh off an eight-round stoppage of durable journeyman Ray Beltran, not to mention returning from an injury when he fought for the vacant IBF title in Frisco Texas. Make no mistake about it, this Ghana striker is a warrior, no slouch and a tough test for any upcoming contenders for his crown.

Let it be known, Teofimo has been vocal about his “TAKEOVER” and have excoriated the current unified Lightweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko, saying he’s a primadonna, doesn’t want to fight him and belted Lomachenko as a “B!tch,” now its up to both fighters to prove the other wrong in a test of wills for total supremacy. Who is your selection to harvest the championship glory?

My prediction, if the constellation steadies and these two fighters center for battle, my prediction is (Teofimo Lopez will prevail as the future Lightweight Undisputed Champion, but I will reiterate Nakatani then Commey is the stop light at the intersection. There is no way he can overlook these two solid stance of opposition ahead on Lopez boxing calendar. One voice that audibles with confidence, is his father Lopez Sr. He has never faltered from his words of confidence of his son and how special he is as one of the best in boxing today. And I’m sure if anyone ask his prediction, Lopez Sr wouldn’t hesitate give you the raw-uncut version of his answer.
