UFC “The Highlight” Justin Gaethje Halts Cerrone In First-Round.

BY Scottie “The Context” White

September 14, Vancouver, BC, Canada hosted the UFC fight night. The mega full contact flagship dropped in with a light intensive fight card with a few notable names but more likely had fans yearning for the main event of the night.

Be honest fight fans, this match up betwixt Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone and Justin Gaethje vortexes a lot more energy than casuals are crediting. Cowboy was a title contender turned journeyman to over 50 fights to his commendable mix martial arts ledger. He’s battle the wins and loses of who’s-who in his career, so last night was in limbo to assume the rising mister of mayhem Justin Gaethje would run through Cerrone in one round, but obvious from the results we all were off our comprehensive scale of predictions.

Gaethje started his low calve kicks early, he established the reaction his tactical senses wanted from Cerrone, who checked them early out of respect for the residual damage attainable from considering otherwise. We’ve seen Poirer and Alvarez degrade quickly from Gaethje antagonizing striking presence.

Well back to the first round, Cerrone display respect early in checking Gaethje kicks but with little return to his countering prowess as he gauge timing of Gaethje. Quickly Gaethje abridged the distance with authority as his kicks lassoed Cerrone with stiff combinations that showed to green light sharp attention from Cerrone who countered on the inside.
Huge left hook from Gaethje followed with a murderous leg kick. Cerrone return his own leg kick – answered immediately with a punctual leg kick from Gaethje. Cerrone spurns a combination and return swiftly by Gaethje. Fighters clinch seeing Gaethje rip a leg kick to Cerrone. Both fighters cash in with combinations but Gaethje closes with another leg kick. Cerrone sends his own leg kick only to receive one in return. Gaethje pressed forward landing another combination set. He’s in the groove early and Cerrone answers with a body kick of his own. Action from both as punches register attendance for both but Gaethje seals another leg kick to answer. Nice upper cut from Gaethje chaperoned with a belligerent leg kick.

Cerrone throws a left hand missing the mark and Gaethje clocks in sweet chin music on Cerrone with a right cross dropping him to one knee. Gaethje closed down with punches for a better account. Gaethje unleashes more punches – hesitates for the referee to intervene. Nothing – Gaethje pops Cerrone to the head with less mustard as the referee finally steps in to halt the action. Fight is stopped @1:48 Round-One improving Gaethje record to 21-2 – Cerrone 38-13 additioning his thirteenth lose in 51 bouts.

Entertaining why it last, both fighters are friends in real time outside of the cage. What we didn’t see was Gaethje back flip layout off the cage which is a pretty sequence for a victory shivoo.

CALL OUT OF THE WINNER OF KHABIB -FERGUSON

On the mic, post fight interview Gaethje summoned his request to powers that be that he’s interested in meeting the winner of Khabib Nurmagovmedo – Toney Ferguson. Gaethje is his own highlight reel, most of his gear shifts in the cage doesn’t have a brake during his action pack sequel which has led to his cliff hanger risk taking crash and burning. What I will say about this bout with Cerrone, either because they’re friends on a personal level, Gaethje operated much more discipline to the early frame of the bout. He successfully shut the lights out to fight another day without significant receipt of afflicting damage.

Passing the guard to a different advantage, moving forward to the Khabib and Ferguson showdown. This fight has been schedule previously in 2015,2016, 2017, and 2018. All of it to say this, if indeed the past rear its ominous devotion. We may possibly see “The Highlight” Gaethje tuxedo an opportunity for his first UFC title shot on the horizon. He’s 4-2 since forgoing his WSOF World Series Of Fighting reign as the lightweight champion accepting his call up to compete on the grand stage of the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
