Joshua Sunk the U.K. Boxing Titantic, Fresh Off The Glove Of Mexico.
BY Scottie “The Context” White
One of the underling detriments that sunk the largest Titanic ship in history, was human error. Logistics were good but the administrator in charge derelicted his duties, an important measure to ensure the smallest of details were met in preventing a total disaster. Promoter Eddie Hearn loosely setting sails from across the pond really believed this would an easy voyage hey, so much that no one grab the “binoculars” to allow proper planning to gauge his debut charter.
A perfect example of Hearn, the pompous U.K. helmsman steering his boxing canoe in from friendly waters, was obviously mesmerized under his own visual perception leading his team to ground quickly. It wasn’t the usual literal inclement weather that ravished hearns into rough waters but the clouded canopy casted early with Jarrell Miller failed drug test, then scrambling to locate a perfect alternative in boxing terms – a soft-touch opponent. His replacement was in every sense of the word, a soft, puggy, but seriously gamed boxer who was ready to shine on the big stage one more. A Mexican fighter named Andy Ruiz, hosting a respectable ledger 33-1 (22KOs) who was fresh off a recent win over Alexander Dimitrenko. Most notable to this bout, it was just outside of a month prior to hearing his call up to face the unified undefeated champion Anthony Joshua.
Team Joshua would embark on the grounds of New York City to pump up fight week. For starters, an open-day workouts and assigned media scrums for the fighters. Again, the local complaints of entitlement radiated the media waves in haste, Team Joshua had jettison a large majority of local U.S. media who are usually present during fight week. The visual circle was consistent of selected British media and the obvious reduction of local U.S. boxing journalist reporting from more ground forces, respected work horses, whom are punctual aficionados covering these boxing cards on a weekly stance. This proves the lack of confidence or anxiety Joshua possesses to interact with the unmolested media sparring of raw disseminated news. These are the vociferous social media microcosms, who are respected voices in the modern day flagship of broadcasting quality content.
Joshua pretty much refuse to acknowledge what it takes to become a household name over here in the mecca of combat sports. So when all the schedule appointments expired the week, here comes the night of retribution, to perform beneath the grand halo of Madison Square Garden. A fight of this magnitude with all the hyped hoopla, was generously infused in an area usually outgoing, an exuberant fast paced transient located in Midtown Manhattan atop the Pennsylvania Station in New York City
As the daylight dimmed to the glimmering New York City bulbs, it was finally time. Both fighters enter the ring as the headlining showpiece to carry the night. The fight on paper was easy enough to designate a clear winner in Joshua but would be an shock-and-awe chapter in championship history mirroring the upset of Buster Douglas knock out of Mike Tyson.
Now the unified heavyweight champion Ruiz would drop Joshua several times, finally closing out an early night in the seventh round with a barrage of overwhelming punches. The crowd was absolutely frenetic, it was mayhem, a vortex of energy bottle-necked to the center sphere of Madison Square Garden etched in the annals of heavyweight history. The purist of upsets that will beckoned the boxing communal for quite sometime. Ruiz did more than except a last minute challenge, he would answer the bell as if he was defending the belts and bleeping gave Joshua an unrelenting heavyweight thrashing.
As the afternoon shadow box the incoming evening and final interviews silence the post fight media scrum. Next couple of days would funnel a whirlwind to a congested speculation “Why Joshua appeared to be mentally unbalanced?” Headlines broadcast across the spectrum –
” https://metro.co.uk/2019/06/03/anthony-joshua-knocked-sparring-shock-andy-ruiz-jr-defeat-9794502/ “Anthony Joshua knocked out in sparring before shock Andy Ruiz Jr. defeat.
Former WBC Cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew said “What’s happened here tonight – I don’t want to say he’s overlooked him – but there’s no fear factor there. “He wasn’t bothered about what was coming back at him.”
WBC Heavweight Champion Deontay Wilder mentioned ” He wasn’t a true champion. His whole career was consisted of lies, contradictions and gifts. Facts and now we know who was running from who!!!! #TilThisDay
The fabric of boxing media should reminds us to keep light on our toes, acutely vigilant, and our ears receptive but intermittent to the slumgullion melting pot of controversial news. what is true from this recent heavyweight stunner at MSG, is the question will Joshua return to the sport with a new found dedication? Marry up a decadent blueprint that changes everything that enhances the esprit de corps in his recharge for clean of his disaster relief. The cadence to Joshua post fight impromptu mentions “I have to make some moves” triggering a plethora of squinted eyes, leading to side bar conversations and pondering a direction of merit that may lead to strict changes His preparation to march back to the front lines of his championship retribution in a rematch. Speaking of such, sources have echoed the months of November/December as the beaconing timeline of enticement to see epic clash.
Joshua rumors are heavy rested, let me tell you. If he is concussed, then how will the diagnosis impede the recovery outfit for a return back to the battle-square. Is Joshua still motivated to compete at the highest championship pinnacle, does his heartbeat pulse the intensity to perform a comeback as anointed boxing greats in history. Let’s not pilfer Joshua courage to return but the burning question is did Hearn fully know the severity of Joshua knock out in sparring. If so, and he force him to the lace up with a serious concussion? Then he should receive a hearing for justification in allowing him to sustain his license. I don’t know and truly never want to negatively prognosticate a half ring to a black-eye on an event of hearsay.
What is evident is the return, the rematch, the redemption, no other psalm will serenade Joshua back to the throne of heavyweight recognition. Every dream he ever had in its darkest moment has now summoned a prophet. The AP has reported Joshua will return for a rematch the winter of 2019 to face Andy Ruiz jr and I’m certain all medical scans will be cleared. U.K. flight home would probably tardy much more supporters than usual to his welcome home extravaganza but truly we don’t care.
Congratulation to Andy Ruiz, you have cemented your legacy in a single evening of greatness, the first Mexican heavyweight champ and unified four-ways to Sunday. Seen in the distance is the headless horsemen with his torch lit, he welcomes with a caustic warning – “
