We salute you, body erect, right-hand to brow, palm facing inboard, heels together, sounding off with a warm Happy Veterans Day – Thank you for your sacrifice in service to our country.
Veterans Day – a federal holiday in the United States observed annually on November 11, for honoring military veterans, that is, persons who have served in the United States Armed Forces (and were discharged under conditions other than dishonorable). A day of remembrance which are celebrated in other countries that mark the anniversary of the end of World War I. Major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, when the Armistice with Germany went into effect. At the urging of major U.S. veteran organizations, Armistice Day was renamed Veterans Day in 1954.
A wonderful day in reflection paging back decades to the inscribe chapters in our military annals. There are decisions made to accept the challenge in becoming a military service member, a life changing bookmark that resonates forever no matter the years served. These individuals enter an environment of structure, a daily routine accompanied by a select grade of drill instructors who will demand more from you than ever before. A frantic distortion to your comfort emissions, a dichotomy which inserts discipline for a physical and mental balance in demanding your maximum effort in accepting nothing less.
The survival stories will page a vaulted cataloged absent of any conclusion from dusk to dawn, a gathering that will reverly veterans to converse no matter their titled services, occupation and the calendars that existed betwixt the first tour of duty – until the final salute.
Enclosing, we must halo the fallen veterans and their families. You may hear the voices “this is what you signed up for” but the cogitation once the ink confirmed our commitment for service – was never to die a hero. Our mission is always to serve with honor, courage and commitment to God and country. An embodiment to that commitment is total sacrifice, to rally as one team – one fight in protecting our comrades and mission accomplishment. That includes providing security for foreign and domestic on our watch. Our selfless duties beneath our nations umbra has uniformed countless names to return home for a ceremonial resting place – an ultimate sacrifice in giving their lives in service. As you thank us today, in return, accept our humble gratitude marching forward.
