Las Vegas (June 15, 2020) Waking up to another week of boxing, brings us closer to that feeling of exhilaration, a step closer to normalcy seeing the sport return from the grips of a riveting pandemic.
Across the global lea, the world has experienced extremely tough times in recent months. every sport imaginable was halted, the presence of boxing was placed in a state of detention outside of its annual attendance.
When it come to boxing, the fighters themselves were forced to hold steady amid the boiling tensions of protest, unaware as to when the sport would resume and with the gyms closed, finding ways to sustain that burning light of physical condition during their leave of absence.
Joshua Greer jr, (22-1-1, 12 KOs) a Chicago native has traveled through many obstacles in his lifetime, to nearly losing his life on the streets, to writing a story of success as he campaigns as the WBO’s number-one ranked bantamweight contender.
Speaking with Greer early on, I’m reflective of his maturity as he spoke on his righteousness, his primal focus as a rising star in the sport to lead by his own action, setting those important goals as he strides forward on an incrediable journey in his life. An intricate part to his glory is his commitment to set the example, dedicate himself to exceed his prior performances and inject his fan-base with pure energy to entertain round-for-round.
Greer is slated to showcase his first headliner since signing with the flagship of boxing (Top Rank) promotion . He will face Mike Plania (23-1-0, 12 KOs) in a 10-round bout tomorrow night, center-square in the heart of boxing MGM Grand Conference Center – Grand Ballroom, Las Vegas NV. Preliminary card commences at 8 p.m ET / 5 p.m PT live on ESPN and ESPN Deportes. This fight card is contested without any fans in attendance, this is due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions which are currently ongoing.
When it comes to the question if Greer may perform any different, I can honestly say that his mental blade is extremely sharp in these circumstance of adversity and his armor of courage will not disappoint by any means. In addition to his motivation, he may have a carryover from his recent birthday shivoo since turning 26 years of age, this day – 13th of June.
“My biggest thought process right now is winning,” Greer said Sunday. “That’s the most important key and the most important goal: to win and bring the victory back to Chicago.” (Chicago Sun-Times.)
Greer previous outing in the ring earned him a unanimous decision victory over Antonio Nieves, it would be his final fight to close out an active schedule for 2019. Following that bout, Greer departed ways from coach John Pullman in California, returning back to his stronghold rooted in Garfield Park boxing under coach George Hernandez.
Bantered across his chest reads “No Struggle No Progress – By Any Means” an umbilic scripture birthed from the streets of Chicago. Greer is fighting for a village of many, his love ones, family, relatives, children and those pupils who keep their chins high with inspiration seeing him put on for his city every moment he laces up to compete. And we never forget the spiritual omnipresence of his father and his close friend Ed “Bad Boy” Brown cheering from the heavens above.
Top Rank hit the ground swinging as boxing returned last week, hosting WBO featherweight champion Shakur Stevenson, a close friend of Greer who disbursed of Felix Caraballo in the sixth-frame of their scheduled 10-round main-event. Every fight for Greer has been equally important to his ascension up the ladder of prominence, this fight is no different, but now its Greer time to main-event.
Yes, it’s one of the biggest fights of his career, win it and his title shot is imminent. Salute.
