News has broken that multiple division champion and top pound-4-pound star Canelo Saul Alvarez (53-1-2 32KO) has earned a huge victory outside of the ring in 2020.
Alvarez was embroiled in an active lawsuit with promoter Golden Boy and streaming platform DAZN. Alvarez filed a lawsuit in federal court citing a breach of contract on an 11-fight, $365 million deal signed in 2018. Attempt to mediate between the parties faltered and the suit was refiled. It didn’t take long for Alvarez’s trainer/manager Eddy Reynoso to announce the news on social media Friday to confirm the boxing Mexican superstar is a free agent.
REYNOSO SPEAKS OUT-
“In my role as a manager and coach of Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, I allow myself to communicate to the boxing community and to all our fans, that starting today, November 6th, ‘Canelo’ becomes a free agent, so we are ready to continue his boxing career,” said Reynoso.
“All this time we have been working hard in the gym with a lot of responsibility and discipline, to be in great physical shape and ready to fight this year and it will be!
“We will announce a date, rival and place very soon, and we will return stronger than ever to keep growing and showing that Mexican boxing is the best.”
Several boxers have separated in the past for their boxing independence, Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao, and Mikey Garcia to name a few.
In light of the news, boxing fans are pinging with joy for potential candidates for Alvarez on the horizon. There are a surplus of names out there vying for the opportunity to step in the ring with him. Such as, WBC Jermall Charlo, WBO Demetrius Andrade, David Benavidez, or even a trilogy with IBF Gennadiy Golovkin.
Next calendar year is bright for boxing, especially for Alvarez who has more control to matchup with whomever he chooses.
But hold up, here is a juicier nugget for you hardcore Alvarez fans. You going to love this news, sources have told ESPN Salvador Rodriguez that Alvarez and his team are targeting a return to the ring Dec. 19 against IBF super middleweight titlist Caleb Plant, who fights beneath the Premier Boxing Champions banner.
We shall see, stay tune.
