Salute PBC Media Excellence, WCS – Asked Wilder About Franchise Champ -“I’m Not Interested – I Want The Mandatory”
BY Scottie “The Context” White
November 5, 2019 – PBC Premier Boxing Championship parked their media convoy outside the battlegrounds of Skyy Gym in Northport Alabama. The coverage was halogen on brights gleaming a special spot light to the WBC heavyweight World crown holder Deontay Wilder (41-0 40KOs. He’s calendared for an epic return in a rematch with south paw striker Luis Ortiz. Once the heavyweight giants touch gloves, the turnover for each round elevated the dramatic exchanges seeing both fighters march through the through a torrent storm.
Wilder split the ropes with a verified pair of left/right Alabama skull crushers. Him Ortiz first meeting aired March/2018. Early couple of rounds Ortiz was rhythm happy on the jab keeping Wilder honest on the end of it. No time was wasted in both fighters calibrating the movement of the other in turning this fight into a FOYT candidate. Wilder and Ortiz battled to delight of a standing crowd. Ortiz was dropped early but recovered enough to land his power shot authority in buzzing Wilder briefly in the seventh. It wouldn’t be enough, for Wilder demonstrated once more his under rated ring IQ, his strategy solving proved to much the slick cuban boxer, as Wilder sustained Ortiz entire punching payload, only to stop him with as violent upper cut encounter forcing Ortiz to a knee for prayer. The referee concerned for Ortiz had no other recourse but to call the fight.
So hoping out the uber back to topic at hand. The open work out Tuesday wasn’t good but an superb media display seeing the champ with a preliminary warm up, stretching and then leading to light shadow boxing. Skyy boxing gym was a full house of PBC network and a collective group of multiple media pods on deck for online, social media and journalistic reporting on Wilder fight camp. Wilder known as the heaviest puncher in boxing warm up and soon dress up with head gear readiness for his first round of sparring. All media were required to observed from a distance only mere feet away but close enough to gauge every second of competitive heavyweight sparring. As I observed Wilder movement, his methodical collection of his sparring partners offensive data and unleashing pure unadulterated returns in working clean offensive delivery.
Following intense sparring rounds from Wilder hearing the final bell, he proceeded to the corner steps in cool down relief. Next on the docket was the post work-out media scrum commencing with Timothy Smith as the emcee for the evening Q&A with Wilder. The champ addressed several questions such as, what he could do differently this fight early on than what was missing in their first bout. Another question was ask about Tyson Fury former unified heavyweight champion reluctance to sign for an immediate rematch with the “BronzeBomber” who fired off his signature heat seeking missiles to the jawline of Fury nearly stopping him in the 12th frame.
But the next question was an mental splinter to me which I had to ask the champion his raw input on WBC Mauricio Sulaiman franchising champions Canelo Alvarez and Vasyl Lomachenko but…….Not the longest reigning WBC owner of this era. His response was a masterful delivery in not concurring with the loosely assorted protocol.
WCS– “Champ! The WBC crowned Saul Canelo Alvarez and Vasyl Lomachenko franchise champions. What do you have to say about that being that you’re are the second longest reigning WBC champion this era right now?
Deontay Wilder -” I mean if Canelo accept it and he happy with it, then congratulations. Really all I have to say about it. Many people ask me about the franchise belt or whatever, I don’t know much about. I hear you can stay a champion and don’t have to face your mandatories. If that is the case, I’m not interested! I want the mandatory, have guys work their way up to become one-and-two. I love to have a mandatory and have him waiting all that time, then its time to fight – he say you had me waiting all this time. It’s good to see a guy go 12-rounds. At the end of the day, people want knockouts. Hopefully nothing come my way about a franchise belt. I don’t think being a franchise would fit me. If they want to give someone else the franchise belt, its fine with me. “
If anyone set in for a Wilder interview, the genuine responses are direct as anyone could ask for. Wilder say “Speak It, Believe It, Receive It. And the vibe he sends when you’re in the presence of one of the greatest boxers in the history of lacing gloves. Wilder will journey his team on the road once more to another grand stage of boxing entertainment.
Wilder will face-off with one of the most avoided heavyweights in boxing hosting a single lost enforced by Wilder himself in a 10th round brutish knock out. in 2018. Another familiar boxer was on deck working the heavy bag, cruiserweight Marsellos Wilder, Yes the younger brother of the WBC champion. I was able to catch up with Marsellos about his recent victory, what was some pockets to his boxing prowess he worked toward improving going forward, as he trains to step back in the ring for another fight in the near future. He did speak on his dedication to improve always and let the viewers know gazing into the lens “Im coming, Oh Im coming!” I suggested to Marsellos would we see him on the Wilder v. Ortiz in Las Vegas in two weeks? He couldn’t confirm or deny but news broke the next day 6 November that Marsellos is locked in to fight on Deontay under card 23 November, which will be a fight week to remember.
Supporters I encourage you to stay Turned Up and Tuned In to “World Combat Sports” media
